Last week the Supernova team had a fabulous week assessing the students understanding around the cause of earthquakes and their effects on buildings. This has been a major focus over the last 5 weeks of school and has even seen some students watching lectures from the University of California on the subject.
This learning will help the students in their quest to redesign the Christchurch CBD over the next few weeks.
The assessment was in the form of an art. The students chose whether they would show their understanding of the cause of earthquakes and their effects on buildings by either using drama, music or visual art. This assessment process was fantastic for all concerned as it really showed which students had this understanding that perhaps a written test may not have.
Here is an example of the Drama
And here is an example of an Music
In both cases a high level of creativity and thought was used. I was blown away with what the students came up with and are very much looking forward to what they come up with in their designs for the CBD!
A copy of your child inquiry assessment will be on their e-portfolio later this week.
This blog is where Room 2 will share their reflections, quality learning and notices for 2011.
