Term 2 Class Newsletter
Term 2 is upon us!
I trust that you have had an excellent holiday. I have spent the last week putting together the class programme for the term. I am very excited by this and can't wait for the term too start!
Term Overview
A major component of this term will be our investigation around the impact of the Christchurch Earthquake. At the end of last term the class decided that we would redesign the Christchurch CBD and submit it to the City Council for consideration. There is further explanation here. Also we are visiting the Christchurch CBD on Wednesday and the $5.50 and permission form need to be returned before then.
Winter Sports start this term in week 3. Unfortunately due to earthquake damage we won't be able to take as many teams as we have previously. There will be more information coming out about this.
This term Room 2 will be focusing their attention around excellence. This will comprise of children learning about striving for their "personal best" and persistence.
E-Portfolios
This week your child will design their e-portfolio and begin sharing their learning on it. Last term the students set some learning goals. These will be accessible on the e-portfolio as well as updates on how the students are going at achieving these. In addition, over the next couple of weeks I will start adding some of the results from the standardised testing that was conducted in term 1. When something new is added to your child's e-portfolio you will be alerted via email. We will be having a Parent evening around the e-portfolios in week 3/4 of this term for parents.
Homework
There have been lots of questions from parents and students around homework. Here is some Informationthat should answer most of your questions
Email Notifications
Be sure to enter your email address in the "Follow By Email" Box on the right hand side of this blog. This will mean that every time that some new is added to this blog you will be alerted so that you never miss a thing.

Red Cross

Dear Red Cross Earthquake Relief Fund Team
We designed a homework challenge and we came up with raising money for the Red Cross Earthquake relief fund team.
We organised a red and black mufti day for the school on Wednesday 13 April 2011.
These are the steps we did:
· Kate and I came up with the idea.
· We had to ask for permission from our school principal to do the mufti day.
· Kate and I talked to our principal and we came up what day and what theme. The theme was to wear Red and black the Canterbury colours.
· We made posters to stick up in each class
· Kate and I went to all the classes to collect the money on the mufti day.
We raised $593.00 altogether.
Kate and I enjoyed organising the mufti day and seeing the kids dressed up in red and black.
We feel that the money we’re donating to the Red Cross Earthquake Relief fund team could go towards emergency supplies.
Kind regards
Noor-Aisha Mann & Kate Humphries
